Standard Knee Radiographs

Our standard knee series includes a lateral view, 45° PA Flexion Weight-bearing, and Bilateral Sunrise view.  All of these are listed below with examples and a description of how to shoot them.

Position:  Patient lays on affected side, knee flexed 20-30 degrees

Tube:  Cephalad 5-10 degrees

Demonstrates:
  Patella
  Distal femur
  Proximal tibia and fibula

Position:  Standing with knees flexed 45 degrees

Tube:  Caudal 10 degrees

Demonstrates:
  Assessment of joint space narrowing
  Distal femur

Position:  Knees flexed

Tube:  Cephalad with central ray perpendicular to patellofemoral joint

Demonstrates:
  Patella
  Anterior femoral condyles
  Intercondylar sulci
